Judith M. Allen
Fine Artist - Illustrator - Teacher
Judith works in pastel, watercolor & oil on canvas. Her compositions range from the dynamic terrain of the southwestern US to remote Mediterranean islands–capturing the light & historic mystery of Greece. Judy Allen has a gift for inspiring others, and is an avid proponent of youth art education at every level.
Graduating from the Art Institute of Boston in 1964, she began as a commercial artist and illustrator. Her early career was in advertising, layout, graphic design and technical illustration. As a New England artist, Judith was a member of, exhibited and won awards at both the Leominster Art Association of Massachusetts, and the Plymouth Artist Guild annual shows.
She later received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and art history from the Massachusetts College of Art and relocated to the high Arizona desert. There she spent close to a decade painting and teaching on the Navajo Reservation at St. Michael Indian School and Window Rock High School.
During her tenure there, she received an Award of Excellence in Teaching from the Arizona Dept. of Education and many of her students received honors and awards at the Heard Museum Annual Native Student Shows.
Inspired by the Land of Enchantment, she lived and worked in Albuquerque, New Mexico, furthering her craft, exhibiting in local galleries, and winning awards in juried shows. She has been a member of the Pastel Society of New Mexico, the Rio Grande Art Association, and has served as a consultant on the steering committee for Masterworks of New Mexico.
She now resides outside Austin, Texas, where she continues to be a prolific painter and illustrator. Working alongside her daughter, a professional Graphic Designer, she regularly publishes new work & illustrations. Never one to cease looking for new challenges, she is also embarking on a new chapter in textile design for e-commerce.
